Tactical Appraisal[]

The Woodruff is the baseline, the centerpiece, the gold standard by which all Trenches must be measured. Its armor, weaponry, emplacement loadout, and speed are all squarely average. It can field 2-slot weapons on each side, can mount two light turrets and a support turret, and it can be brought along on literally any mission without becoming a liability. The Woodruff has no glaringly advantageous stats in and of itself - it's not as fast or efficient as an Engineer, nor can it pack Heavy turrets or 3-slot weapons - but the fact that it has no really notable drawbacks is what makes the Woodruff such a valuable trench. With the ability to be brought on any mission, the Woodruff is accessible, effective, and sleek. It remains much more stable and focused than the Hamer and offers much more attack power than the Honeychurch or Selker. "No Weaknesses" is the Woodruff's strength.

Note, however, that whilst the Woodruff has no tactical drawbacks, it cannot do what many other trenches can in specialized roles. Whilst it can outgun an Engineer, it cannot beat its efficiency with Emplacements. It cannot outgun an Assault trench, and this "in between" size and efficiency is where the Woodruff's middle-of-the-line stats can hinder it. It loses to the Hamer for battlefield versatility, so properly flexing the balance the Woodruff has - Emplacements and battlefield capability together - is what truly makes this jack-of-all trades and master of none shine.
